In 1815 Napoleon was finally defeated at the Battle of Waterloo. This painting –the largest in the Rijksmuseum –depicts the turning point in the battle, when the Duke of Wellington, the British commander, hears that Prussian help is on the way. Victory and the end of twenty years of war are in sight. The Dutch Crown Prince, later King William II, lies wounded on a stretcher. His bravery earned him the nickname the Hero of Waterloo. (Bron: Rijksmuseum)

About Jan Willem Pieneman (1779-1853)
Born in Abcoude in 1779, Jan Willem Pieneman studied at Amsterdam’s Stadstekenacademie. In 1805, he was appointed to teach drawing at the artillery and engineering college in Amersfoort. Pieneman was known above all for his depictions of events in Dutch history. He also served in various administrative positions: in 1820 he became the first director of Amsterdam’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts and from 1844 to 1847 he was director of the Rijksmuseum, then still housed in Trippenhuis. Pieneman also helped organise and teach of a group of young students, including Jozef Israëls. (Source: Rijksmuseum)

Rijksmuseum Collection!
In our Rijksmuseum Collection we offer an unique art collection on photo wallpaper taken from the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. We will keep adding items to this collection so be sure to visit our website again.

Paper
The photo is printed on non-woven wallpaper (120gsm). Non-woven wallpaper is strong, tear-resistant and can be lightly washed with a soft rag. The strips of the wallpaper are 47.5 cm wide and are therefore much easier to hang than the much wider strips that are regularly offered online.

Hanging wallpaper
You do not need a wallpaper table because the adhesive can be spread on the wall. Non-woven wallpaper does not shrink – by hanging the strips adjacent to each other, a magnificent image is created on your wall. You can include wallpaper adhesive in your order. For best results be sure to order our wallpaper glue at checkout.
